Planning / BUYING GUIDE

Planning recovery equipment for a smaller home

Work backwards from access, storage and upkeep.

Begin with the space you actually have

Measure the usable area and access route. Allow for opening doors or lids, getting in and out, cleaning and servicing. Supplier minimum clearances matter more than a neat marketing photograph.

Write down what you can maintain

Consider where equipment will be stored between uses, where water can be drained if relevant, and how much cleaning you can realistically do. A compact product can still create a large maintenance task.

Ask before installing

For apartments, rentals and shared properties, confirm permissions and any relevant building requirements. Water weight, electrical supply and neighbour noise may need professional assessment. Do not assume a balcony is a suitable location.

Try before you commit

A paid session at an established local facility may help you decide whether you enjoy that type of equipment before buying it for home. It does not establish medical suitability or reproduce every home product’s experience.

Keep the shortlist short

Choose two or three configurations and compare the full installed cost and upkeep. Use the same questions for each supplier and avoid purchasing several categories at once just to complete a room.
